Enough already.

At this point, I subscribe for about a month and a half at a time force myself to watch one or two shows, and then unsubscribe. Why? As every user has stated in reviews for as many years going back, the app and interactivity are absolutely awful. Hidive… you have one freaking job. That job is the experience you provide your customers. The experience is awful and people have been saying It’s awful for years now. I think I’ve even left a review two years ago, saying it was awful ( hoping that the time if enough people complained. Maybe you’d actually do something ) so… don't you think it’s time to freaking do something about it? Why don’t you have the balls to respond to a single one of the reviews discussing how bad your service is? At this point my goal and leaving a review is in hopes that it saves just about everybody else from wasting their time in a company who clearly gives no care about their customers and clearly is not even paying attention probably because they don’t care.

New UI Different set of issues

Can’t view information about a show if its in the continue watching interface. Have to search the show then continue that way otherwise is never auto plays. I dislike dubs… can’t make japanese the default/preferred audio language. Am forced to change it each time I go to watch in the app if it closes. Still beyond issues, playback controls are much better. App feels like someone tried. It’s halfway there. I would love to help develop the app further.

Why did they make the app so hard to navigate?

It has a decent amount of anime to watch but it's hard to navigate through it. Plus it doesn't show progress of what you watch. They need to fix the whole interface of it, in order to make it easy to use. I only got for the free trial and there's no shot of me going forward after with membership.

Worst Streaming App I’ve ever used.

Hands down the worst streaming app I have ever had the misfortune to use. It’s like the developers have never used a streaming app before. Here are just a few of the missing features/issues I’ve experienced:
Doesn’t show which episodes of a show you’ve watched previously
Doesn’t show next episode in continue watching unless you actually start it
If you resume playing an episode from the continue watching screen you will not be able to skip to the next episode upon finishing. You have to find the show again and click on an episode
To find a currently watching series, you have to go through three clicks just to get to your queue
There appears to be no way to clear your continue watching queue, which seems to be very inaccurate showing many episodes that were already completed
Last major update was an improvement to be fair… but only because it was somehow even worse previously. I hope they can make this app more usable in the future, so many good anime locked behind this.

They always have good shows but good god… how can you make the app even worse? Just clone crunchy roll or something at this point. I can’t get into my watchlist or history, it just says nothing is there. I’ve paid yearly for hidive for the past 2 years and now I can’t watch anything. I can’t search for anything, I can’t go into my watch history or watchlist…. What’s the point then? What am I paying for? It’s ridiculous that in 2024, with everything having a streaming app, you guys just can’t get it together and make something so simple.

Offline Downloading Feature Simply Does Not Work

I’m trying to download a movie from the app because I have a flight to travel on for a couple of hours and the offline download feature that I am paying money for within the subscription doesn’t even work. The problems are all over the place and completely random without any sort of rhyme or reason.
Sometimes the download will complete itself (if I’ve stayed completely still on the specific tab of the movie/show I’m downloading) and give off the check mark to safely assume that I can find it in my downloads page for later. Not the case at all and when I back out to check there is nothing there, lo and behold when I search back up the show it says that it’s ready for download, as if I never downloaded it in the first place.
Other times the download will complete, give off a check mark, only to restart itself moments later for no discernible reason.
The download circle can also just not move at all when you tap it. Tapping the download button at any time during the process no matter what situation will just tell you the download failed, so don’t do that I guess. Also if you think of going to a different page other the one you tapped the download button on then I guess the download just stops itself like you never even pressed the button, because no matter what it never shows up in your downloads page.
All of these random issues in one singular and very important feature seems like an immense oversight and I can’t help but wonder if I’m the only one experiencing this. Very frustrating when I just want to temporarily install a movie to view while in flight.

Bad App

The app for mobile and the AppleTV are terrible. Minimal functions. They do not allow full native use of the AppleTV remote. You have to pop up their UI to forward or reverse, and it is preset at 30 seconds skips. Want to replay something to make you heard it? You have to go back much further and listen to far more than you wanted. Odds are you will do this once, and not again. You can use the slide, but precision is a crapshoot.

Biggest Failure in Anime History

This app is by far the biggest pain to operate. From the constant forced logouts, if you gat a phone call the app times out and you have to restart it. If you select an episode from “recently watched” it doesn’t pull up the full series so you have to hunt that down after you finish the episode to watch the next. Sometimes I can make it two episodes before it times out and says “content not available”, but most of the time I can’t even finish one. I don’t know who was in charge of this recent update, but it ran so much smoother before. If it’s not broke why “fix” it, and now that it is broke why aren’t y’all fixing it?

UI goes behind of any expectations I can’t even change or remove the subtitles, usb monitor won’t display full screen, and so and so and so ¡!

The app isn’t as bad as the reviews say.

The reviews for this app have been pushing me away from downloading it, but I am pleasantly surprised to say they weren’t completely right. The app itself does have some problems that, that I believe are slightly annoying but bearable. For example, to figure out what episode you left off on you have to go to your history and find the last episode of that series you watched in there (and that history includes all the episodes of all the different series you have watched). It is not like crunchy roll where you can see where you left off just by clicking on the series. The subtitles are also a little ugly compared to other platforms. The best example of how they look I can think of is, imagine Netflix subtitles but colored (usually yellow). These are the biggest issues I have come in contact during my usage of the app. The other issues I have seen from other users aren’t as apparent to me or are just not right. I have not experienced any lag when it comes to putting anime into my watch list like other users. I assume that either A the developers fixed that issue before I got the app or B the users that had that problem thought that the issue was because of the app when in reality it was just their connection. There has also been mentions about the app only allowing the user to skip in 30 second intervals. That one is just a misunderstanding. If you click on the screen while a video is playing, you will be shown a pause button, rewind 30 seconds button, and a fast forward 30 seconds button. Users see this and just assume you can only rewind and fast forward in 30 second intervals, which in not true. If you double tap on the left of the screen ( to rewind) or to the right of the screen ( to fast forward) you will skip and rewind in 10 second intervals. This misunderstanding is mostly the apps fault, since it does not inform the user that they can do this. But some fault also lies with the users that complain about this, since they did not interact with the app’s interface enough to find this out. Which I was able to do within the first 5 minutes of using the app since I am used to double tapping to skip raid shadow sponsorships in YouTube videos. The app is not perfect, but I think the users as of recently have not been giving it the time of day and have just been focusing on its faults. When in reality it only has some minor faults that shouldn’t hinder your anime watching too much. If you read through this, please give this app a proper try before you make a judgement on it. It’s only fair to the people that worked hard to make it. Thank you for reading.
