Transport for London (TfL)

  

Collection of app usage data keeps being silently turned back on after I turn it off. Not sure if it is happening on every log in or every software update or on some other schedule. Not acceptable. You ought to seek permission to collect and use data that users don't explicitly give you through their use of the app before doing so, rather than defaulting to collecting it without notice, and there ought to be a simple way to have such collected data erased.

Update: So, on further investigation, it looks like the new screen capture permission allows the app to detect whether the user has generated a screen capture of the app, but does not give the app access to the actual capture... so doesn't sound like a major privacy infringement.

Version 7.64 has been silently (nothing mentioned in release notes - unless you consider it an 'improvement') been updated to give itself acess to AdId and AddSevices APIs and its data policy says it shares your email address with advertisers/marketers. I just want to pay for parking with cash directly, without provision of my personal data to third parties/advertisers being part of the deal. Uninstalling.

Why does this app, which should allow me to control my lights, need to modify or delete the contents of my shared storage and record audio? Seems unnecessary and unrelated to purpose. I chose this app over other ones partly because of the few permissions required, but permission creep has set in and it's no longer the case. Lost control of my lights which show offline, and support claim signing in via a social account is necessary to diagnose and fix the issue.

As is noted in point 1a of the new WiZ terms of use, which we must accept to use the app, it is important to understand them. However, at ~10,000 words, the May '23 version is the size of a short novel and I haven't got that long. It appears to be a massive change from the Nov '21 terms. Please can you summarise the key changes and reasons for them? (Wiz, please update your response.)

Excellent lightweight viewer that doesn't suffer from permission creep and doesn't collect or share personal data. If only I could highlight and copy text (phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, account numbers, etc.) it would be perfect. To me, that's essential even in a lightweight viewer.

The Oct 2021 update has broken this app. Microsoft Word documents (.docx) spend around 5 seconds loading... and then no content is displayed. I just get blank white screen. The Dec 2021 update has only made things worse, if that were even possible. When launched it says it is updating. After a delay it crashes. I've tried stopping the app, creating the app cache and data, and relaunching, but the and thing happens. It's sad, but this has become completely unusable for me.

Still not possible to delete card details via the app. It insists in retaining them. If you deny access to location, it'll continuously prompt you for it on every page and action - whether it actually needs your location or not. Seems completely unnecessary. Not the most privacy focussed app ever. Shows little respect for user preference.

Hi there, our systems and processes are PCI compliant so we can assure customers that card details are kept securely. For customer ease at least one card has to be in the system so that you can park without having to enter details each time. However we will pass your comments on to the RingGo improvement team. I have been using and trusting this app to generate secure time-limited one-time passwords for years. However, the latest version has suffered permission creep, and can now read phone status and identity (and can read write to storage), neither of which are needed for my usage of it. I'm grateful to the response of the developer, who says this was a mistake. I'll await the update that revokes the new permissions.

Thanks for bringing this up. We have identified an issue with a library we use that caused these extra permissions to be added unexpectedly. We will correct this in our next release and have added checks to ensure we catch errors like this in the future.

After previous complaints, Famly have been in contact with me, which is
good. Some of the identified bugs have been addressed in more recent
releases. Certain behaviors in the app are still sluggish. The nursery are
using it as a more secure alternative to email for communication and
sending docs, which I like. However, it raises an issue about whether those
communications will be retained and accessible after our children leave
nursery. My understanding at present, is that they won't. So, take
screenshots of or download anything important.

Glad you claim to be improving the app. Still waiting for the day some of
this feedback makes it to the top of your 'to do' list: - Live time search
remembers what you searched for last time, which is good, but it won't let
you start a new search that begins with the pre-filled previous
destination. Why force the user to click an x on the previous destination
when it wasn't necessary before? Just let users start searching. The from
search excludes the listed destination. It should show ALL stations. If you
choose a station that's already in the to, the to should be forgotten (or
swapped with the old from). It's safe to continue excluding the from
station in the to field though. - When searching for specific trains at
specific times, I often want to see one additional train later/before the
last/first one currently displayed to compare with it. It's not possible
though. If I ask for more results before or after, ALL existing results are
lost (showing only trains that are exclusively earlier or later), making
comparison impossible. An ability to shift by one, or add more results to
the screen without losing the current ones, or to show a list of trains
that includes the last/first from the previous page would all help to solve
the problem. Annoying that you just redesigned this page but didn't take
this feedback into into consideration, instead introducing a link to 'live
times' against every item even way in the future (???) when previously and
on other pages the same thing is sensibly called 'journey details'. -
Please provide an option to turn off the splash screen that just slows me
down when I'm in a rush (which is always). - Date and time widget is so
annoying I've docked stars because of it. Ages wasted swiping a spinny
thing that doesn't spin like you want it to when you could previously have
tapped once to simply select the number you want or twice to type it, and
then you have to repeat multiple times. Alternatively, you could just type.
Now you can't. What user testing told you that was a good idea? I suspect
an app designer designed it and this *is* the user testing. The old widget
worked extremely well. Stop breaking things for no reason! - If you specify
a railcard within Plan & Buy, and then select a journey, the Summary page
sometimes says "No railcard" under the "Personal Information" section;
which is not 'true' since you have one, when presumably what it actually
means is 'railcard not valid (on this journey)'. You're left not knowing
whether the app is bugged and forgetting to take your railcard into account
or not. Ideally, it would also tell you WHY your railcard is not valid (e.g
'peak time'), so you could maybe check whether the app has got its price
correct before you buy. Thank you
