LANDR Audio Inc.

No support, no promo link, released over a week ago, not in stores.

I have gotten a “released” status for a third album 8 days ago, however unlike the other releases there is no promo link and the album cannot be found on stores. Support on Landr is non-existent - they haven’t responded so far.

Microsoft Corporation

Horrible

A platform held on together by Duct Tape and dreams. Extremely inelegant, disjointed mess, terrible UX and very, very slow.
I would need to write an essay of everything wrong with this platform, but that’s work and honestly Microsoft just needs to look at competitors and individual apps in the same space to conclude these things themselves. I’m flabbergasted by the current ratings. Are people rating it so highly because they don’t happen to have a frame of reference?
I miss Google’s Suite, which is what my previous company uses.
It makes me aware of why I am an Apple user to begin with.

Poorly designed objects

If you design a hidden-object game, you need to keep the chicanery reasonable. I’ve been trying to search for an “orange” in a pub scene for a long time. I made a screengrab to review the image in Photos, because I wasn’t finding it. I asked chatGPT to analyze the image to no avail. It ended up an almost hidden 2D element of an organize, after searching the internet.
And the orange is just one example.
The artists in this game weren’t properly vetted by the game designer and this causes me to accidentally select a red blob which happens to be “cutlery” - the object I needed to find.
This is just another example…
Fix this game or remove it from the App Store… this isn’t fun

Not enough lesson content to justify a subscription

There’s not enough content to justify a subscription. Within no time I got to a “more lesson content soon!” message and felt ripped off.
The existing lessons are beginner level (from a vocal p.o.v, the singing can be challenging) and the technology doesn’t really assess you in detail other than the basics.
I recommend going to a vocal coach instead, which arguably is more expensive. I also recommend to subscribe to Moises and upload any music, which turns your music in a multi-track composition. You then can mute the voice and sing along.

12/20/2023
Amazing UX design but feels like a trap

Unfortunately after paying for an annual subscription the conclusion is that there is barely any learning content.
After the basics of singing which is presented very gracefully (perhaps a bit childish, but nevertheless really well done), it all just…stops. The only thing that is left is a library of content to sign along with, but without any theory or guidance to become better. And that library does not contain a lot of songs that I enjoy either.
I feel scammed with a vague promise of more content, although I suspect it’s not out of ill intent. It’s just that the current offering does not warrant such a high price at all and now they should be worried about renewals.
Lastly, despite the really well done UX design and onboarding, I hope they will do more, perhaps with the use of AI, to really analyze my strengths and weaknesses. I feel it pretty much only listens at my pith but it doesn’t know anything about my timbre, breathing, etc.

Amazing

I wish Crisp all the success they deserve - go read their story and you’ll understand why. Although I don’t be buying all my products there (too expensive, not everything can be bought there), I substituted as much as I can with Crisp that I once bought at Albert Heijn.
The quality for many products is simply better and I support local, smaller sources.
The app works like a charm.

Fantastic at first

   (This review has been deleted)

Kudos to the UX designer. This app is incredibly polished, from how the sing-along interface is designed to the onboarding and videos, it’s just slick as **** and that deserves praise.
Where I got really disappointed was the depth and scope of the lessons. I paid for an annual subscription only to find out there’s barely any learning content before you’re essentially left with a library of songs I don’t really care for.
I’d expect much more lesson content to improve my skills across the board. This was just a quick intro to singing. Paying that kind of money for just a quick intro to singing doesn’t seem to provide enough value.

Pharmeon B.V.

Erbarmelijk slecht.

Become a member and now PAY MORE

This is how their onboarding goes:
Step 1. Become a paid member: $4.99/week
Step 2. You are funneled to their ‘AI character creator’
Step 3. Import 9 photos (takes a while to find good ones)
Step 4: Pay more! $2.99 at least.
What an odd way to introduce new users who are willing to pay. Instant uninstall.

Abruptly stops at chapter 24

Not only does this version of Vineyard Valley abruptly stop at chapter 24 (versus many more chapters in the regular version) right before an important reveal, I am stuck on a screen that awards me (golden/blue crate). The interface is not responding to my taps. Rebooting the game: same issue.
I’ve also experiences weird UI bugs where characters are rendered twice in the interface, and buildings with Z-fighting, making the screen flicker.
The gameplay is way too easy - balanced out of whack for the Netflix release by removing IAPs and other Monetization tricks (a good thing). They should really spend more time on finding that balance again.
1 star. I played only to get stuck half-way without any content left, breaking the story.

05/14/2023
Disappointing - stuck at chapter 24

   (This review has been deleted)

There are some technical issues with the game where I had Z-fighting going on with a building (flickering elements). In another case I saw the interface rendering twice when I activated an event by long-pressing an item in the environment. I believe it was a mission where I had to win a greenhouse.
But overall the game feels polished. The story is ludicrous, but what do you except from a game like this? The storyline is just there to provide mini rewards to a match-3 game, which I think is too easy (Toonblast does a better job at that but offers zero storyline).
The reason why I took 2 stars off is the fact that I ended up at chapter 24 and suddenly receive no more stars for winning levels. Right before a more interesting plot point (putting map pieces together). So I’m basically stuck now - the original manual suggests I’ve gone through all the content and have to wait yet I see videos of chapter 75 on the internet.
Did Netflix license an existing property after it failed to monetize and gutted the game (from ads, from IAPS - a good thing, from content - bad thing)?
I don’t know. But I feel cheated to get stuck here artificially.

Meta Platforms, Inc.

Buggy

- when a comment involving you (tagged person) is highlighted and you tap it, you go to the thread but not the comment itself, forcing you to ease through hundreds of messages to find your comment back.
- often when typing larger responses, Facebook only gives you a tiny textarea to navigate blocking the rest. It also often gets really buggy making it impossible to select the right text, or moving your cursor to the wrong spot. Pretty bad experience causing me to losing my message in multiple occasions.

Bending Spoons Apps ApS

Another app bites the dust.

And yet *another* app in my library that I have paid for in the past tries to justify a subscription model by introducing surface level improvements. The developers force a monthly payment for something I use incidentally and essentially communicate that “the classic version will always will be free” (read: it’s here but we won’t update it anymore).
I understand the race-to-the-bottom Apple introduced with the App Store and the need to make money to recoup the development costs, but this is not the way to do it.
One star and uninstall here. Such a shame - I always liked this app.

Misleading advertising

The game suggests to be Tetris judging the ads, but the game is completely different (and not a lot of fun).
One star for misleading just to acquire users.

Great so far - but frustrating controls

- The inventory suggests a “slide down” gesture but because it’s on the top that triggers the app switcher; boom you’re out the experience. Even a regular tap can be problematic. It’s a common frustration in games now because Apple created so many OS-level gestures that it limits developers with app-level controls, e.g the bottom part of the app. Still I think the developers should have been aware of this and figured out an inventory system not requiring fiddling with the edge of a window.
- The “touch object and let go to trigger” can be frustrating because it’s not always clear during the “hold” that the action will trigger on-release. Lots of failed interactions ensued.
- Overall everything on my iPhone 13 Pro feels sluggish and not snappy. A game like this shouldn’t feel sluggish but respond quickly and being good at detecting my intend. The gameplay is not the interface. The gameplay is exploration and making choices that advance the story.
- the characters bumping into eachother feels a bit clumsy. An avoidance/smarter path-finding algorithm could have helped.
- Amazing idea. You can explore much and try several outcomes. The idea of a ‘reset’ sans Bill Murray works well and they’ve managed to make the reset not feel like a failure but another chance to progress.

Full of bugs - lost my replies on many occasions

Boy the quality of this app has gone downhill fast. A big shame considering how it used to perform.
When replying to posts with a lot of threads, often the text field just disappears and with it my response. I sometimes have to carefully locate it again.
Hitting reply again to force back focus on multiple occasions instantly removed the text I was working on and I closed the app in frustration.
Clicking links on FB notifications that tell me there are replies don’t properly lead to my post and I have to manually locate it in hundreds of messages - not something I’m willing to do.
Typing messages that expand my text area sometimes positioned it out of view.
That’s just a few of the problems I’m encountering.
A company of this size with that many resources should not have bugs of this kind in an app *for over a year*.

Hive Social, Inc. (Apps)

A social media platform that (currently) feels dead.

The user onboarding is buggy and weird. When I finally get into the experience it doesn’t feel alive. I’m all for a new social platform but it is a huge uphill battle for the developer to bring people into a platform that doesn’t do more than serve NFT-like images. To me it is unclear what the platform aims to be (and what not).
It is also incredibly slow - it feels like it’s not setup to scale properly just yet.
I wish the developer well and hope they can break through. I’ll uninstall for now and check back in a year.

Miele & Cie. KG

Horrible

This app is terrible. If I’m not waiting for 40-60 seconds to access my stove top, I’m logged out or my change are not applied.
Even more so, and this is beyond the app but closely related, Miele has opted for some propriety system rather than embracing smart home standards. This means this app is the only gateway to their controls.
The appliances themselves are shockingly bad as well. The stove top ignores my manual overrides when I’m adding a pan or changing on the cooking stove and the stove top starts blasting the filter even though I said it should only run minimal speed. The appliances have poor UX, work poorly and are unintelligently designed. But expensive? Yes. I will never, ever, ever opt for this brand again.

Dynamic App Design LLC

Great so far, can’t wait for improvements.

Great app for musicians!
The separation of tracks through machine learning is not reaching the same quality level as Moises has, with a “flange” effect and “underwater” sound as tracks get muted.
The lack of a seeing chords (like Moises) can be tricky when learning songs.
Having said that, the user interface is really nice so far. I despise subscriptions, so another point for this app is that it comes with a single purchase.

Slack Technologies, Inc.

Does not work well with iPadOS 16

When resizing the window of Slack, the changes to editing a post are lost.
When pressing ENTER on the iPad keyboard, the message is not sent; you have to press a button. But this button is hidden behind a tiny floating language selection & dictation bar. I had to move it out of the way, and quickly hit ‘submit’ before the bar jumped back, a matter of milliseconds. I know Slack used to be a game company, but this is not the type of game I’m interested in playing :)
I also find the app to respond slow on iPadOS, as if it’s not native but some kind of ‘HTML shell’ that doesn’t really bring the best of the native CPU/GPU capabilities.
Lastly, I think they need to rework ‘search’. I would like to see a more clear distinction between ‘search everywhere’ and ‘search within the current channel or private conversation’. It takes ages to find something now. I also would like to see a more user friendly search query system (AND/OR) where I can add criteria. Right now it doesn’t ‘feel’ right - I know that doesn’t really help but perhaps they’d benefit from a larger user-acceptance phase for UX.
Luckily it’s miles better than Discord, which although more powerful, is not easy to use or grasp.

Poor support. Avoid this service.

Items were stolen when our host wanted to repair/replace a washing machine during our stay. No support was provided despite several attempts. You end up talking to a stupid support bot that just bounces you around, avoiding finding an actual human being to talk to. This is not just a matter of reporting stuff to the police department and insurance; the host and AirBNB have responsibilities as well.
Extremely dissapointed.

The Omni Group

Unfortunately, useless

I’m a happy customer if Omnigraffle for macOS and I still use it to this day for UX/UI wire framing.
Although the desktop app is becoming really ‘legacy’ now, e.g no way to collaborate in real-time, no objects I can create or import to scale elements ‘9-slice’, it is still for me the most effective way to wireframe, as I never got used to Adobe’s offering and greatly disliking a subscription model to come with that.
The mobile version though to me is useless. Pretty much every file I import from the desktop app is ‘converted’ because it apparently is powered by an entirely different interpreter, rather than shared by the same code-base. Lots of errors and inconsistencies when the file is finally imported. The feature-set is different, which I understand to a certain degree, but is not feasible for a professional workflow.
Lastly the mobile app does not provide any added value either, such a real-time collaboration. Therefore it feels more like a subset app with flaws that doesn’t really know what it’s oughta be.
As an existing customer I therefore recommend leaving this one alone in its current state and instead just the desktop version.

LCG Entertainment, Inc.

Great production values, but story and interaction could be better

Part of a personal research into interactive FMV I purchased this title.
I applaud the overal production value of this story. The directing is well done, the lighting is good and there is a sense of style and aesthetics throughout the experience.
For people who complain about the price: shame on you. Apple ruined the mobile gaming market with a race to the bottom to free-to-play, and the perception with the public nowadays is that this should be offered for free. How ridiculous. The price is less than a beer, and you are paying for thousands and thousands of dollars in development and a balsy developer taking on a niche genre. A narrative like this is different from never-ending free-to-play games; the developer needs to compete in a sea of hundreds of apps released every day, and unlocking the full app is the only business model that makes sense for this genre.
Where the game fell apart to me is on interaction and story. The interaction consists mostly of sliding and moving things. To me this is not interesting. Why not have the character do this? What I’m interested in are the choices I have to make. And this is another point of criticism; nowhere in the story I felt that my actions had real consequences. I understand why; cost. You can’t branch out endlessly. But more emphasis would have been nice.
I almost think that it would have worked better if it was more like a point ‘n click game with inventory and a more free form room navigation style, OR by fixing the criticism above.
Lastly the story feels a bit campy and silly. I’m watching a mix of occult and weird stuff but nothing makes sense. The ‘rules’ in this reality feel randomly established and taking cues from dozens of horror/suspense films, but nothing clicks. Not roze pedals, mysterious symbols and blood noses. Therefore I was not invested in the character, her problems, and outside her there was no one else I cared about.
Last point are occasional glitches; missing audio or wrong triggered/times subtitles. Nothing bad, just glitches.
I hope this developer will continue producing interactive films - I will buy them all - but I hope they evolve in story and interaction.

Terrible user interface for ordering

   (This review has been deleted)

We’ve decided to pay for a year of free delivery (€150) which includes “personalized delivery moments”. Well, that essentially means you can order once a week, which is not flexible enough with a family.
However the real terrible part is that the app doesn’t allow you to differentiate a grocery list from an order. Once you decide to order to look at the delivery options, it’s very easy to lose your ordering spot, and have to wait 2 weeks for the next moment.
The only way to get back to your grocery list and its filtering system is to “cancel your order”, which by itself is dumb enough, but then without any communication drops the delivery moment, rendering your €150 cost useless.
The other weird part of this app is that their services are still designed to be used by one person. For families this is really annoying; why can’t my spouse login under the same account as another user, and add or remove grocery items? Why is “sharing grocery list” limited to sending a text/email, instead of inviting additional users?
Albert Heijn is clearly behind on providing a modern experience and in fact its app completely ruined a very expensive annual subscription for us.

Developer Replies Reply Time 01/18/2021

Dear Dacloo,
Sadly to see that the user experience of the AH app is not pleasant. In addition, I am afraid that there is a misunderstanding about the delivery bundle. If you have a delivery bundle, you pay your delivery costs in advance in one payment. This is often cheaper than paying separate delivery costs per separate order. A personalized delivery moment is an extra option of the delivery bundle, you do not necessarily have to choose this. It is therefore not the case that you pay to have your groceries delivered for a fixed day of the week.

Furthermore you do not only have to use your personalized delivery moment. In addition to this weekly moment, you can also schedule separate delivery moment. In addition, an order is always linked to a delivery moment. If you cancel an order, you also cancel your delivery moment. In that case it is better to change your order via 'My orders' and 'Change'.

We are happy to help you further to explain more about your personalized delivery moment and order. You can contact us for this via the customer service channels at ah.nl/klantenservice
Sincerely,
Team AH App ^ Jay

Peak Games

Representative of the sad state of mobile gaming

Another game that has been carefully crafted to make teens and adults spend consumables. The first on-boarding phase of the game makes you comfortable with quick wins and locks people in, and from that point on, gradually, bit by bit, they tighten the monetization strap by serving levels that either require dumb luck and many retries or spending consumables to finish the levels within X moves.
And you know what, it’s a rigged game. They collect data to see the average tries users require to finish a level, and then adjust the tries that users actually get for a specific level accordingly. The ‘randomization’ of elements appearing is not pure random but adapted where in some levels it’s clearly configured to work against you instead of with you.
Strip away the cartoony graphics layers, and you reveal a successful data science and monetization algorithm. It’s not designed as a game; that’s just the front-end you and I get to see.
This is mostly Apple’s fault - facilitating a platform for years that allowed thousands of “free” games that corrupt game-design to make money through impulse buys because of sheer volume and competition. Developers having to deal with zero ability to charge full price for a game. Perception of value down the drain - a race to the bottom.
E-books can be sold for $15, but charging $2 for a game equals a failed game. Companies like peak have to do this to survive. Apple’s lackluster attempt to course-correct with Arcade only lead to poor transparency to content creators in what they make and a very poor content offering.
Let me be fair - this game is extremely polished and “feels” great. It’s been optimized and polished in many revisions and the developer is definitely much focused on providing a “luxury experience” to its end users. What bothers me is that it represent the “peak” (pun intended) of what I hate about the mobile gaming industry.

Getting fed up having no Siri/HomePod support

   (This review has been deleted)

This is most likely Apple’s fault, but for years now I’ve been waiting for my HomePod device to natively support a “default streaming app”, so that I can instruct Siri to control my music the way I would instruct it with Apple Music.
This is anti-competitive behavior on Apple’s end, but they seem to be slowly opening up their framework to third parties now (because of action takes against there anti-competitive behavior) and I feel Spotify isn’t pushing hard enough to get their iOS presence locked in.
End of 2020 and still not being able to override Apple Music with Spotify is to blame both companies.

Double Fine Productions, Inc.

Amazing 5 star game & a very lazy remaster

So this game is supposed to be a “remaster” of the legacy game. To Double Fine - who always get a lot of dev money for their work due to the “VIP status” of a certain individual - it means sitting back and doing the bare minimum.
This leads to very mediocre lazy remasters, such as this one or Full Throttle. On the better end of the spectrum, their Monkey Island remasters (where is MI3??)
The moment I boot this game, I see my phone’s top bar (where the time and icons like WiFi are displayed) isn’t properly hidden. The intro boots in 4:3 format, not 16:9, since they’ve not bothered to remaster backgrounds & cut-scenes (“just add borders or stretch horizontally!”). The sound instantly goes out of sync with the video and subtitles, and the video is cut off early. The controls at least are better from the original one, but still, 3D adventure games from Lucasarts like MI4 or Grim were always a bit poorly done UX wise, so why not take the effort of modernizing/remastering it?
Why doesn’t the game look better from its original? Sorry, but remastering isn’t just replacing original textures with higher quality ones! You probably had the original, higher quality ones ready, so that’s just a matter of replacing assets.
Further, what’s with the QA? A bunch of crashes so far - totally unacceptable!
Such a shame as this title deserves proper care.
