I can’t believe I fell for this. I made the mistake of purchasing this app for myself through their website and getting a subscription for my partner. I fell for the “try it out for 100 days for free” gotcha ad to practice French and Japanese. After a few tries, I realized the AI driven approach is stale here and the Japanese is AWFUL. It’s 100% AI driven so it’s a mix of casual and formal Japanese with no context for how and when to use it. You’re not really learning. I’m an intermediate speaker so do not get it thinking you’ll advance in any way. The worst is that I wanted to find out how to get access to my partner for the subscription I got him but there is no way. I wrote to customer support but got an AI response with links that don’t answer the question at all. There is no good way to cancel either. I’m still waiting for a response. Don’t fall for this scam!!!!

I have a request to not make reviewing the lesson with a frown, neutral and happy face required to finish the lesson section. I find it frustrating to have to do that every time I complete a lesson section. Especially since it’s the same dialog for each section of a lesson topic. I understand you want feedback, but forcing people to give it to you isn’t the way to do it. For now I’ll mark it with a frown until it’s optional. Thanks.

I have tried many language apps at this point. I am living in Germany and trying my best to learn deutsch. In my opinion Jumpspeak is as close to immersion style language learning as your going to get with an app. They focus on different ways to learn realistic conversational phrases. Hearing, Reading, Grammar and speaking are all separate skills in language learning. This app may actually help you speak in real time as long as you use it consistently and as designed.

Uses predatory business practices to get you to buy add ons without realizing and then absolutely refuses to refund those add ons.

Lose the heartbeat thing

I wanted to like this to help improve my conversational Spanish. However, the AI sometimes gets stuck in the same loop, the responses come back in JSON format (very weird), and the correction tips don’t always relate to the previous statement or sentence.

Great idea, nice UI. But glitchy as all get-out. The voice recognition doesn’t recognize correct responses, and approves wrong ones. Which makes the user experience frustrating. They should pull it and take it to market when it actually works.

In the In-app purchase section it says $14.99 per month but this does not seem to exist anywhere in the app.

The written parts of the app are in poor or otherwise incorrect English.
The button on the very bottom of the iPhone screen used to end a session does not work.
That pulsing heartbeat sound with the neon lettering is stupid!

Great concept, poor execution. I really really wanted to love it.
